Sarlahi lifted the Madhesh Province-Level President Running Shield

Simara: Sarlahi has secured the top spot and won the title of the Madhesh Province-Level President Running Shield Selection Tournament held at the Simara Stadium in Bara.

Demonstrating an impressive performance, Sarlahi accumulated a total of 45 medals, including 19 gold, 15 silver, and 11 bronze. The district heavily dominated the athletics category alone, sweeping 15 gold, 13 silver, and four bronze medals to anchor their championship victory.

The host district, Bara, finished in second place with a total haul of 16 gold, 9 silver, and 12 bronze medals. Bara’s athletes performed exceptionally well in taekwondo, securing seven gold medals, alongside six gold medals won in athletics. Meanwhile, Siraha secured the third position with eight gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals, followed by Mahottari in fourth place with four gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals.

Looking at the remaining standings, Saptari placed fifth with three gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals, while Dhanusha took the sixth spot with three gold, three silver, and five bronze. Despite failing to secure any gold, Parsa finished seventh by capturing four silver and 10 bronze medals. Rautahat was confined to the bottom of the tally in eighth place, managing just one gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.

The tournament, which commenced on Jestha 12, saw the participation of 752 athletes from all eight districts of Madhesh Province. Competitions were held across various sports disciplines, including athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, taekwondo, karate, and wushu. Following their outstanding performances, the winning athletes in athletics and martial arts have earned direct selection for the upcoming national tournament. For volleyball and kabaddi, the provincial teams will be carefully selected by a dedicated selection committee under the Madhesh Province Sports Council.

According to Shivaji Gupta, the Member Secretary of the Madhesh Province Sports Development Council, the selected athletes will soon undergo closed-camp training. He added that a formidable provincial team will be formed by pooling together the best-performing players from the tournament. In total, 124 athletes have been selected to represent Madhesh Province and compete at the national-level President Running Shield Tournament.

During the closing ceremony, prizes and awards were distributed to the winners and runners-up by prominent dignitaries. Among those present were Shyam Prasad Patel the Minister for Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Madhesh Province, Sushil Kumar Sah Teli Acting Provincial Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare, Ranjan Kumar Karki Colonel of the Nepali Army’s 28th Battalion, Rajendra Prasad Kandel Chief of the Area Administration Office in Simara and Member Secretary Shivaji Gupta.
