Birgunj: Two Nepali teenage girls who were staying in a child protection home in Bihar India, have been rescued and brought back to Nepal.

Maiti Nepal’s Birgunj Transit Home said it has started the process of reuniting the girls with their families.

According to Goma Paudel, head of Maiti Nepal Birgunj Transit Home, the girls are a 17-year-old from Aurahi Municipality 2 in Mahottari and a 16-year-old from Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City 18 in Bara. They were staying at a child care home for girls in Siwan, Bihar.

The girls were brought to Birgunj with the order of the Child Welfare Committee in Bihar and with support from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

Both girls had left their homes about a year ago at different times after being influenced by friends. The girl from Mahottari went to Chhapra, India, after being persuaded by a young woman she met while working at a beauty parlour in Janakpur. She was promised visits to religious places and a well-paying job.

The girl from Bara went to Chhapra with a friend from her village. While working in a hotel, another woman offered her a job performing dance at weddings and music events, saying she could earn more money.

Both girls later became involved in places linked to illegal orchestra dance groups in India. Indian police found them during monitoring activities and rescued them. They were then placed in a child protection home until their return to Nepal.
