Simara: The last rites of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary, who was raped and murdered in Jeetpursimara 1, Dashadhure, Bara, were performed on Sunday afternoon following a three-point agreement with the government.

Her body which had been kept at the Kalaiya Hospital, was received by her father, Manoj Chaudhary, and cremated according to religious traditions at the Pashaha River in Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City 14, Baghavan.

The breakthrough came after an agreement was reached between the government and the victim’s side during discussions at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday night. The government agreed to form a seven-member committee within seven days under the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs to review existing laws on heinous crimes and draft new legislation. They also agreed to coordinate with local levels for the construction of a statue in her memory and to facilitate her funeral rites.

Following the agreement, the Pathalaiya-Birgunj road section, which had been blocked by protesting locals since Wednesday morning, reopened at 1:00 AM on Saturday.

Protesters had previously been demonstrating and demanding the death penalty for the perpetrator. Little Garima had gone missing from her home on the morning of Shrawan 31, and her body was found three days later in an abandoned house about 150 meters south of her home.
