Sarlahi: Man Arrested for Blackmailing Woman with Obscene Videos
Sarlahi: Sarlahi police have arrested a man for allegedly blackmailing a woman by showing obscene pictures and videos and extorting money from her. The arrested individual has been identified as Shivacharan Mukhiya, a resident of Basabariya Rural Municipality-3.
According to preliminary police investigations, Mukhiya took advantage of his acquaintance and trust with the victim to force her into obscene conversations via WhatsApp video calls, which he secretly recorded.
A formal complaint filed with the police revealed that Mukhiya threatened to make the recorded videos and pictures public on social media and send them to her family members and relatives, demanding Rs 50,000 from the victim.
Police stated that an extension of seven days has been obtained to investigate Mukhiya under the Electronic Transactions Act for cybercrime.
Additionally, the police have urged anyone facing digital blackmail or harassment not to be afraid. They advised victims to preserve digital evidence such as chats, call details, pictures, and videos, and immediately contact the nearest police office.
