Nijgadh: Even after years have passed since banana cultivation was destroyed, the farmers of Bara Nijgadh are currently engaged in street struggle as they have not received the insurance money despite repeated demands. The banana plantation in Nijgadh on an area of more than 120 bighas was completely destroyed by the storm that came on 16 Baisakh. According to local farmers, there was damage worth more than five crores on that day.

Farmers who have insured their crops from Himalayan Insurance Company have not been able to receive the insurance amount till now. Farmers who took insurance to protect their investments in agriculture have become victims of insurance companies.

Farmers belonging to the Bara Banana Producers and Fruit Dealers Association have also warned that if they do not receive the funds within two days, they will stage a protest.

To get the insurance amount, the farmer’s team had earlier reached Kathmandu and drew the attention of the insurance company and related agencies. But the farmers complain that they are not interested in addressing their demands.
