Simara: A six-month sewing training program for Differently Abled (deaf and non-speaking) Female Students has started in Simara Bara.

The training began on Friday and is being organized by the Nepal Disabled Service Association Bara, with financial support from Shri Sathi Nepal. Twelve girls are taking part in the program. Some of them are still studying, while others have already left school.

The training program was officially opened by Bhola Prasad Adhikari, Deputy Mayor of Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City. Speaking at the event, he said that people with disabilities can become skilled and successful if they are given proper opportunities and training. He added that such programs help people become productive members of society.

Former president of the association Ganga Prasad Wagle, said the program was started because many people with disabilities are unable to get jobs due to a lack of practical skills. He explained that the training aims to help the girls become independent and earn in the future. He also said the program would help change society’s view and show that people with disabilities can do excellent work when given the chance.

The sewing classes will be taught by Urmila Sapkota Gautam from the Mahila Jagriti Sewing Training Center. She has nearly 30 years of experience teaching sewing skills. However, this is the first time she will teach deaf and non-speaking students. She said the work may be challenging, but she is excited and happy to be part of the program.

Shri Sathi Nepal is providing full financial support for the training. The organization’s president Sarita Sapkota said skill-based training is important because it helps people earn money in their own communities. She believes the program will help the girls gain useful skills, confidence and independence.

Parents of the participants also expressed happiness about the training. Punam Devi Sah Kanu attended the opening event with her daughter, who cannot hear or speak. She said she had been waiting for such an opportunity for many years. She hopes the training will help her children learn skills and support themselves in the future.
