Simara: Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City has launched a cloth bag promotion program under the campaign to replace plastic bags. The sub-metropolis has started a campaign to use cloth bags as plastic bags are not environmentally friendly and will cause more disadvantages.

The sub-metropolis has already completed cloth bag promotion program in five different wards under the first phase. In the first phase, the sub-metropolis has interacted with the locals of five wards on the bag promotion program as it seems to be effective when the campaign is started from the ward level.

During the program, information was given about the benefits of using cloth bags and the impact of plastic bags on the environment. Pushpa Singh, an engineer of the environment branch of the sub-metropolis, said that the campaign was launched in some wards as the program was not possible in all the wards at once.

Stating that the locals are keen to use cloth bags in the wards where the program was held, Singh said that the campaign could be carried out more effectively.

The people seemed positive about using it. However, the people were curious about the availability of the bags, said Singh. We also plan for its management Singh says that a cloth bag bought once can be used many times and is not even expensive. Singh said that the use of plastic bags by the city dwellers themselves has been reduced by thinking that the campaign is for their city and environment. She said that many people could become self-employed at the local level after the use of cloth bags. According to Singh, the SIP-based program can be brought in the ward to make bags and become self-reliant by producing bags from the same SIP.
