Simara: Police have taken five people into custody to investigate a knife attack that happened in Simara, Bara on Saturday evening. Among those arrested, only the main suspect, Ayush Rai, has been identified so far.

The 23-year-old Rai fled immediately after the incident. Police arrested him around 9:30 PM from a paddy field in Dandatol, Mahendranagar, Jeetpursimara-16. Rai had attacked 35-year-old Sher Bahadur Khadka with a kitchen knife inside Samjhana Staff Hotel, located in front of Nepal Cable in Simara, and then escaped. Just five hours after the incident, police found Rai hiding in the paddy field with his face covered by his clothes.

Police received information that Rai had fled toward the forest west of the crime scene, reached the highway, and went to Mahendranagar in Jeetpursimara-16. Before that, it was understood that he took fare money from relatives and traveled to Mahendranagar by vehicle.

After receiving information that he was hiding at a relative’s house in Mahendranagar, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daya Krishna Bhatta from the Area Police Office Simara reached the location. Knowing that the police had arrived, Rai ran from that house to another nearby relative’s house. When the police reached there as well, Rai tried to hide in a paddy field.

Police successfully surrounded the paddy field and took Rai into custody. Although relatives tried to distract the police, officers eventually succeeded in arresting Rai. Police have also detained the relatives who helped Rai escape, though their names have not been disclosed yet. Earlier on Saturday evening, police had already taken two young men into custody.
