A 75-year-old elderly man arrested for the alleged rape of a 5-year-old girl.
Simara: A 75-year-old man named Hasan Jan Miya has been arrested in Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City-19, Bara, for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl.
According to the victim’s family and locals, the accused, who sells palm fruits in the village, lured the girl inside his house and committed the crime when she went to buy the fruit.
Following the incident, a team from the Inarwasira temporary police post arrested Miya from his home. Angry locals soon gathered at the police post demanding that the suspect be handed over to them, creating a tense situation. When police tried to move Miya under heavy security, protesters threw stones.
This injured a senior police officer, Binod Rana Magar, and damaged a police vehicle. To bring the situation under control, additional police forces were deployed from Simara, Jeetpur, Parsauni, and Kalaiya, and the suspect was safely transferred to the Simara Area Police Office.
On Thursday night, police conducted medical examinations for both the victim and the suspect at the Provincial Hospital in Kalaiya. The victim’s parents filed a formal complaint based on her statement, though the suspect denied the charges during initial questioning.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daya Krishna Bhatta of the Simara Area Police Office stated that they are waiting for the medical report and that the suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues.
