Ongoing strike demanding construction of Nijgadh airport postponed
Simara: A 24-day hunger strike in Nijgadh of Bara has been postponed demanding construction of Nijgadh Airport. The strike was postponed after the full text of the Supreme Court’s order on Jestha 12 stated that Nijgadh would not be banned.
In the full text of the Supreme Court, it is mentioned that Nijgadh can also be promoted as an alternative and the construction of the airport can be carried out keeping in view the environment. After the full text of the Supreme Court, the locals have postponed the hunger strike at Nijgadh Chowk.
The full text of the Supreme Court states that the construction of an airport in a place that is environmentally and technically suitable is not restricted to any particular place. Earlier, the order issued on Jestha 12 mentioned that all the decisions taken by the government regarding Nijgadh airport would be revoked.
The agitating locals had handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister, former Prime Minister, leaders of political parties, government ministers and others saying that the construction work of Nijgadh Airport should not be stopped. During the agitation led by the Nijgadh Concern Committee, the locals had been demanding a review of the decision to stop the construction of the airport saying that it was against development.
Ek Bahadur Shrestha, coordinator of the Nijgadh Concern Committee, stressed on the need to build an airport in the place where a large amount of state money has been spent. Shrestha said that it would not be relevant to abandon the plan which has already cost millions of rupees due to its excellent environmental and technical aspects.
