Simara: 20 taekwondo players from Madhes province have been selected for the 9th National Games to be held in Pokhara in the last week of Asoj.
From Bhadra 30th to Asoj 2nd, 16 players were selected for taekwondo and four players for three categories of Pumsey in different weight groups from the selection games held in Bardibas. There are 10 men and 10 women selected.
Among the male taekwondo athletes selected for the National Games are Aftaf Alam (58 kg), Mohammad Soheb (63 kg), Vigyan Dangol (63 kg), Arbaz Hussain Ansari (68 kg), Deepak Pandit (74 kg), Amit Kumar Singh (87 kg), Pawan Kumar Shrestha (80 kg), and Vikas Tamang (above 87 kg).
Similarly, among women taekwondo players, Kanchan Khadka (46 kg), Manisha Waiba (49 kg), Anjali Rai (53 kg), Pushpa Rakhal Magar (57 kg), Pratima Adhikari (62 kg), Ishita Gurung (67 kg), Leela Shrestha ( 73 kg) and Anu Basnet (above 73 kg) has been selected.
Nischal Dhami, Manoj Kumar Thakur, Pushpa Rakhal Magar and Barshaat Lama have been selected for the three categories of pumsey. Nischal will compete in Pumsey singles, Nischal and Pushpa will compete in Pumsey pairs, while Nischal, Barshat and Manoj will compete in the other pair category.
While Nischal will compete in three categories in the national sports, Pushpa, who has also been selected in the 57 kg weight group, will compete in one category each, along with Barshaat and Manoj. 74 men and 57 women players participated in the provincial level selection games. Among the participants, six players from Bara and seven from Parsa have been selected.
