‘Drop Drugs’ Campaign Launched in Bara

Simara: The ‘Drop Drugs’ campaign has been launched from Monday to combat drug abuse in Bara. The campaign is being led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Tamang of the Bara District Police Office.
In the first phase of the campaign, the police have taken 13 people under control who were found to be consuming and abusing drugs from various places in the district. The police have stated that an investigation has been started against those arrested and legal action will be taken forward.
Under the campaign, SP Tamang stated that the police will identify places where cannabis is cultivated and produced, destroy the cultivation and production, discourage illegal cultivation by coordinating with the local municipality to raise awareness, implement alternative farming and other income-generating programs in coordination with the local government, and controlling open trafficking and distribution of drugs.
Surveillance will be increased in potential areas for control of illegal smuggling and sales-distribution. In the border areas, 14 police posts will be established and a 24-hour inspection system will be implemented. Suspicious individuals and vehicles entering and exiting will be monitored and controlled if necessary. Tamang stated that plainclothes police operations will be conducted to make information gathering more effective.
Similarly, action will be taken against those who use drugs in abandoned toilets, dilapidated buildings, and bushes. Tamang informed that Drug users will be identified and tested using special drug test kits provided by the Drug Control Bureau.
