Simara: A writ has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to make the national identity card mandatory for receiving social security allowance. Advocate Bimal Pokharel has filed a writ against the decision of the cabinet meeting on 24th Jestha.

The government had decided that the national identity card should be mandatory for renewal of social security allowance in 28 districts including eight of Madhes province from Shawan 1st. Advocate Pokharel has filed a writ stating that when national identity card is made mandatory, the allowance facility of a large number of target groups cannot be renewed and they should be deprived of the said facility.

In the writ petition filed against the said decision, requesting the issuance of an appropriate order, the national identity cards of senior citizens, single women, persons with disabilities, and persons receiving social security allowances should be collected and verified from local levels across the country, and the national registration department should document them in a scientific manner. It has been mentioned that a public notice should be issued from a month in advance so that everyone is informed.
