Simara: The Nepal government has increased the customs duty exemption limit for travelers crossing the Nepal-India border by land. According to a notice published in the gazette by the Ministry of Finance, the previous limit of one hundred rupees has now been raised to five hundred rupees.

Under the new rules, travelers can now bring or take goods worth up to 500 rupees for their personal use without paying any customs tax. Chief customs officers at the border checkpoints have been given the authority to allow these goods after checking their nature and purpose.

Meanwhile, the existing rules for Nepali students studying in India will remain the same. Students returning to Nepal during or after their studies will not have to pay customs duty on one computer or tablet brought for their personal use. This new decision is expected to bring great relief to the people living in the border areas.
