Nijgadh International Airport Project Awaiting Government Decision
Simara: The Nijgadh International Airport Project Office, which has submitted a proposal with four forts to the government based on the expert group’s report, is currently waiting for the government’s decision.
The project office submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in the first week of Magh, specifying the four fort areas that can be worked on in the first phase, and is now waiting for the decision of the Council of Ministers.
Bijay Kumar Yadav, head of the project’s Simara-based office, said that based on the expert group’s report, a proposal has been submitted to the ministry by designating four forts of the protected area and the area to be worked on in the first phase. According to Yadav, four forts with an area of 1,933 hectares have been designated by declaring nine hectares of forest area from Pasaha to Bakaiya as a protected area, including the surrounding land along with Tangiya Basti.
Yadav said that as a proposal has been submitted that the first phase of work can be completed in an area of 1,933 hectares, it will proceed according to the decision of the Council of Ministers. “We have submitted a proposal based on the report of the expert group,” Yadav said.
Until the Council of Ministers takes a decision, all other technical work including the management of the settlement, which is the main challenge, will be affected. The Supreme Court canceled all the previous works and ordered to proceed with the work of the airport based on the suggestions of the expert group.

According to the order of the Supreme Court, the government formed a 10-member expert committee under the coordination of air infrastructure expert Birendra Bahadur Deuja on 26 Shawan 2079. The committee submitted a report to the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government on Asoj 2, 2079 stating that an international airport can be built in the proposed area. The report was approved by the Council of Ministers meeting on 23rd Kartik 2080 after one year.
On the basis of the expert group’s report, the project office sent four forts to the government.
